Animal Admission

Minimize
Many unwanted animal behaviors can be corrected, enabling pets to successfully remain in the family. If you would like information about training or other solutions for keeping your pet, please call us at (770) 593-1155. We also offer low-cost veterinary services and operate a Pet Food Bank to assist families who are struggling to care for their pets financially.

Admission Policy
Admission of any animal into PAWS Atlanta is based on the animal's health, behavior and adoptability. Animals are admitted when space is available and an intake fee is paid. Animal admission is at the sole discretion of PAWS Atlanta management.

Intake Appointments
PAWS Atlanta requires intake appointments so our staff can collect medical history and behavior traits about each incoming pet. An appointment is required to surrender your animal; however, it is not a guarantee that your animal will be accepted. To request an appointment, please complete the short Animal Admission Questionnaire and email it to frontdesk@pawsatlanta.org.You may also call (770) 593-1155. Be prepared to answer ALL questions on the questionnaire before calling. Please bring a completed copy of the Dog or Cat History Form to your appointment.

Surrender Fee
There is a $50 surrender fee for bringing an animal to PAWS Atlanta. This fee helps offset the cost of feeding, housing and veterinary services needed in order to make your surrendered pet ready for adoption. You will be asked to present your valid Driver’s License or State ID to release an animal. We make no guarantee of being able to accept any animal.

Animal Return Policy
Animals adopted from PAWS Atlanta will be admitted (assuming space is available), provided that the intake fee is paid and the animal passes a temperament test. Any signs of aggression will prohibit the animal from returning to PAWS Atlanta.

Stray Policy
DeKalb County law states that all stray animals found in DeKalb County MUST be taken to DeKalb County Animal Services, 845 Camp Road, Decatur, GA 30032. We cannot accept stray animals found in DeKalb County. The DeKalb County Animal Control phone number is 404-294-2996. Georgia Law does not allow us to accept any lost, abandoned or stray animals.
